A few pointers to help you make the right choice when buying locks are as follows:

Wooden Front Doors

Option 1

On this type of door a Rim Cylinder (upper part of the door) often referred to as a Yale, this can be used alone (but not recommended) or in conjunction with a Mortice Deadlock (lower down the door) often referred to as a Chubb, this needs to be of British Standard (BS3621) and kite marked accordingly.

Option 2

If there is only one lock usually lower down the door (waist height) where the keyhole is below the handles this is a Mortice Sash Lock and again needs to be BS3621 rated for insurance purposes. This can also apply to back doors with the same set up.     

UPVC & Aluminium Doors

Similar but not the same, the lock barrels used in these are either Oval Cylinders or Euro Cylinders, a search on our site by either name will show you which you have, aluminium doors are less common these days and the locking mechanisms that work with these are mostly discontinued now, but some are still available, please call us to discuss if you cannot find what you require.

UPVC doors have a Multi Point Locking mechanism (MPL) these are more complex and have a lot more variations, we have the most popular ones listed, but again please call us if you cannot find an exact match on our site we will always endeavour to find you the best possible solution for you security needs.
